“Many years ago, the optical fiber amplifier I developed occupied an entire room. Today, I am delighted to see such compact, diverse, and high-volume optical fiber amplifiers at Accelink,” commented Sir David N. Payne, the Chief Professor at the University of Southampton in the UK, Director of the Optoelectronics Research Center (ORC), and renowned as the “Founding Father of Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers,” during his visit to Accelink on November 6th.
Dr. Hu Qianggao, the General Manager of Accelink, and Mr. Bu Qinlian, the Deputy General Manager of Accelink, warmly welcomed Sir David’s arrival at the Accelink Premium Opto-electronic Device Industrial Base. They engaged in technical discussions and also presented Accelink’s newly developed innovative plug-and-play optical amplifier samples as a commemorative gesture. Mr. Liu Jiasheng, General Manager of the Transmission Business Division at Accelink, participated in the exchange activity.
At Accelink’s optical fiber amplifier production line, Mr. Bu Qinlian provided a detailed introduction to the product manufacturing processes and production capacity, showcasing Accelink’s prowess in automated production. Sir David personally inspected the series of products and displayed a keen interest in Accelink’s plug-and-play optical amplifiers, highly praising the “smart” manufacturing capacity of the company.
During the exchange session, Sir David reviewed the history of traditional optical fiber development and its impact on fiber-optic communication. He also discussed the development of new types of optical fiber and the latest achievements of his team. Sir David provided insights into the future directions for new optical fiber development and explained the significant impact it may have on optical communication networks and optical devices, particularly optical fiber amplifiers and passive components. After receiving a presentation from Accelink’s technical team, Sir David expressed his full appreciation for Accelink’s achievements in the industrialization of optical fiber amplifiers. He also expressed high expectations for Accelink’s role in advancing the application of new optical fibers and industrialization of next-generation communication technologies.
Sir David, as the inventor of erbium-doped fiber amplifiers and a pioneer in the field of fiber-optic communication, has made a profound impact on telecommunications and laser technology. In the 1970s, his groundbreaking work in optical fiber manufacturing laid the foundation for the use of virtually all specialty optical fibers. In the 1980s, his invention of erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) greatly enhanced the transmission capacity of today’s internet. Additionally, he and his team have made outstanding contributions in high-power fiber lasers, earning him the titles of the “Founding Father of Fiber Lasers” and the “Founding Father of Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers.”
Accelink, as a global leader in the research, development, and production of optoelectronic devices and modules, has maintained its focus on the development and application of optical fiber amplifiers. The launch of a series of innovative amplifiers by Accelink has provided high-quality solutions for the global market, earning the trust and praise of customers.
This visit fully demonstrates Accelink’s international leadership in the field of optical fiber amplifiers and will inspire the company to persistently delve into core optoelectronic technologies, concentrate on innovative research and development of amplifiers and applications, and provide the driving force for industry development. Accelink is committed to contributing its wisdom to achieve faster and more reliable communication solutions.
